Castel Viscardo – Terracotta

Already in the 14th century there was evidence of a first kiln for the production of bricks, and even today in Castel Viscardo there are over ten kilns make handmade terracotta bricks according to the artisan tradition. A long tradition due to the abundant and excellent quality of clay present in the territory, and the large wooded area to feed the kilns.

The quality and uniqueness of the Castel Viscardo terracotta is also known nationally and internationally, in fact many bricks made in this Umbrian town have been used to restore important monuments. In the center of the village a terracotta museum has been set up to learn better about this important craft.
