The 2019 27th edition of Umbria Jazz Winter in Orvieto from 28 December 2019 to 1 January 2020.
Music of different genres, but always of a high level: the festival’s artistic line up has never deviated from the search for quality, often combined with original formulas and with the presence of emerging musicians on the Italian and international scene.
Music spread over time and space, set in some of the most beautiful and important places in the historic center of Orvieto, in an ideal symbiosis of art, culture, quality of life. Just the historic center of this city, the result of a complex and fascinating stratification of three thousand years of history, gives the event a unique charm which translates into the original formula of Umbria Jazz.
Five days of music from noon to small hours from December 28th to January 1st, with 90 events distributed over 7 locations in the historic center of Orvieto, 30 bands, more than 150 musicians, a very high level representation of Italian jazz. These are the numbers of Umbria Jazz Winter # 27.
The musical proposal of Umbria Jazz Winter aims to keep two different characters together, apparently antithetical but which manage to intertwine in an inimitable mix. On the one hand, UJW is a festival that caters to an expert, curious audience interested in enjoying music that requires commitment and attention. On the other hand, the festive atmosphere that distinguishes the New Year period also entails a fun soundtrack, suitable for everyone, perhaps ideal for a backdrop for convivial occasions.
In Umbria Jazz Winter culture, tourism and the art of good living add up and merge.
Almost all the artists are resident so they can be heard several times during the five days of the festival, while others are offered in different formations and projects.
The formula and atmosphere of UJW is told in the “path” of music along the different locations of the historic center and in the passing of the day.
The Mancinelli Theater is the main stage where the concerts are held in the early evening; the Emilio Greco museum hosts midday concerts, in a cozy and refined setting for the most intriguing proposals; the rooms of the Palazzo del Capitano del Popolo, including the Etruscan room dedicated to pianists, are dedicated to the afternoon spaces.
Non-stop music, from noon to deep night, at the Palazzo dei Sette, where jazz and food and wine, another excellence of Umbria and Orvieto, find an inviting symbiosis. Also at Palazzo dei Sette, for those who like to be late, there are jam sessions one of the most identifying rites of jazz since its origins. It starts around midnight with the house band and continues as long as you like.
Finally, jazz lunches and jazz dinners at San Francesco. As always, the Funk Off will parade through the streets of the historic center which, in this case, is the location itself.
The two moments that have always characterized the festival remain central. The first is the gospel concert that follows the New Year’s Mass in the afternoon in the Duomo. The religious songs of the African American tradition are a fixed presence of the festival’s programs.
The second is the night that greets the arrival of the new year with the New Year’s Eve dinners and the concerts before and after the stroke of midnight.
Orvieto and Umbria Jazz await the people of jazz with the aim of confirming themselves as an event that is at the center of the cultural life and tourist attraction of the coming winter.
The Umbria Jazz Winter 2019 program, presented this morning in Orvieto, does not contradict quality.quello dello scorso anno poiché si presenta con tante proposte e progetti interessanti ed alcune esclusive.
