Orvieto is one of the Italian cities participating in the 5th edition of “Buongiorno Ceramica” event May 18th and 19th, which includes special events, widespread animations throughout Italy, workshops, opening of schools and museums, and that protagonists of the ceramists and their productions, and also their workshops will be open for events.
There are 11 artisan shops and the city’s museums in Orvieto to visit. Over the weekend you can enjoy the artisan workshops of the historic center that will offer workshops and meetings to tell the art and craft of ceramics, its tradition and contemporary work.
The path also unites the museums that “tell” the story of ceramics and production that have interested Orvieto through the centuries. The Etruscan Museum “C. Faina” offers reduced-rate admission to admire the splendid terracottas from the Belvedere Temple in Piazza Cahen, and many extraordinary works of clay art. The National Archaeological Museum, in conjunction with the national initiative “The night of the museums” promoted by the MiBAC, participates with special visits to the ceramic finds of the collection: Saturday at 5:30pm and Sunday at 11:30am.
The Museo dell’Opera del Duomo proposes an appointment dedicated to the collection of medieval ceramics and some curiosities of “historical” restorations: with the title “The majolica of MODO: conservative stories” will be curated by Roberta Bollati, restorer of the ISCR and by the scholar Selene Sconci, and is scheduled for Saturday 18 at 4:00pm at the Emilio Greco Museum hall where it will be possible to admire some specimens of the collection.
