Recently recognized as “MAB UNESCO reserve“, Monte Peglia is a vast and important relief that includes several municipalities, the most important of which is San Venanzo. This mountain reaches a maximum altitude of 837 meters, but what makes it an unmissable natural attraction is the great biodiversity of flora and fauna combined with the presence of an important fossil deposit, a natural cavity containing accumulations of rocks rich in fossil sediments (breccia ossifera del Peglia) which have returned the remains of animals that lived in a very distant past including the saber-toothed tiger, bears, monkeys and small rodents. Studies have allowed us to classify the Peglia area as one of the oldest sites in Italy. In addition, the area of Mount Peglia also hosts the “Parco dei Sette Frati“, an area equipped with paths, tables, braziers and services that make it an ideal place for picnics, picnics and walks in the middle of nature.
