Secondo del Piano Bean

Also called “white gold of the Paglia river“, this local variety of legume continues to exist thanks to the growers, who conserved the seeds used in the past generations so that this typical product can still be part of the Orvieto table.

The name of this bean derives from the fact that its sowing takes place immediately after the wheat harvest (we speak of the second bean precisely because of “second sowing”) while “Piano di Orvieto” means the ideal cultivation area or the plain which extends along the course of the river Paglia.

The harvest of the second bean of the Orvieto plain is concentrated in the months of October and November.

For longevity, tradition and particularity, this legume has become “Slow-food Presidium”.
